So Much Time Wasted Lurking Around

I can be easily distracted. That's all I have to say. I am very much disappointed with myself because of the fact that I cannot maintain focus when I am doing something that is important. I kept "Lurking Around". (I just clicked on a new tab and checked out Facebook)

Okay I'm back. I will try to focus on writing this article. I have wasted so much time just lurking around the web sphere. Some of the websites that continually provide distractions are: Facebook, YouTube and Yahoo! Sports (NBA). Sometimes, Wikipedia hopping as well. These things are not evil. They don't intent to ruin productivity and destroy someone's life. They are there for a reason and it is up to us, internet users, on how deal with it in such a way that it won't cause negative effects to our lives.

A major chunk of my time is continuously being drained by lurking around the internet. With every new tab that we make, a portion of our lives fly away. Instead of creating and doing productive things such as activities that will contribute to one's growth and personal development, time is shamelessly devoured incompetent activities such as lurking around or "effortless wandering" so-to-speak.

I am not purely downplaying the above mentioned activity though. There are positive benefits that can be reaped from such websites. They provide information. They promote awareness. People just need to learn how to manage time effectively. We all need to relax and chill down every now and then right?

Some things that I need to put in mind: Focus on the task at hand. I need to be aware of my current state. I should be mindful of my present actions and thoughts. When I catch myself lurking around and wasting time over the internet, I should recognize this as a red signal. I will pause, breath and slowly get back to the task at hand. When this does not work. I will stand and take a walk. I will grab some air away from my work space, refocus, go back to my desk and continue with the task at hand. Rinse and repeat.
